Early Literacy and Reading Readiness
Some children have trouble acquiring early reading and writing skills. Early literacy may be impacted by skills related to speech and language. Children who have or had a language delay are more likely to experience reading difficulties. Children with phonological processing disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, a limited vocabulary, difficulty naming letters and numbers, limited exposure to books, decreased language comprehension, and limited phonemic awareness may present with early literacy issues that impact their ability to read.
